9:30 am. Readied to set out. With the car loaded up, popped back inside to announce to presumed interested public about the start of the journey. Drawn into conflict about whether this should be “Day 1” or “Day 0” away from home on the grounds that a nontrivial part of the day was spent at home. Argument proved surprisingly violent; cats hid under bed, producing discovery that there were cats around.

Cats? What cats? Does the rabbit know about the cats I imagine he would object

That’s part of the mystery! There’s not supposed to be any cats in the household and there never have been.

Day 1, because there at least needs to be a day to start. Day 0 would suggest that you weren’t going on a trip that day. Now, one could argue that the trip hasn’t started yet, thus creating a Day 0, but that was due to an argument and not a planned part of the trip.

You see how complicated this can get, though. After all, the worst part of an expedition is all those nights you aren’t back at home where it’s nice and comfortable, and, the day you set out isn’t one of those, at least not in part.
Anyway, the argument over it is a good chance to call the whole thing off.
